About the course:
Get ready to learn not just the basics but also the more advanced art and science behind perfumery. You’ll cover topics such as fragrance formulation, classifications, ingredient families, accords and much more. We’ll learn in details up to 50 key perfumery ingredients and you’ll have access to up to 200 more. All in an expert and creative environment for you to experiment!
Day 1 – Expert Masterclass
AM: Explore a selection of 25 ingredients, learn to formulate based on the understanding of top, heart and base, create your first fragrance from your first brief.
Lunch included at Morty & Bobs – 1 hour – 1 tea or coffee, a choice of either cheese toastie / mushroom on toast / avocado on toast. Gluten free options available.
PM: Explore a further selection of 15 ingredients, this time, learning to formulate using a scent spectrum that will help you navigate different families and ingredient classifications. Create your second fragrance from your second brief, integrating the concept of strong contrasts and close combinations.
Day 2 – Advanced Exploration Day
AM: Understanding perfumery accords. In perfumery, accords are essential building blocks of any fragrance. Accords recreate the smell of one single scent using a short formula of ingredients without using the ingredient you are trying to recreate. Can you create your own jasmine note without using natural jasmine extracts? Get your chemistry hat ready!
Lunch not included – 1 hour to explore the local area, with lots of cafe’s nearby
PM: Open-Lab session. Put into practise what you’ve learnt over the weekend in the lab and further experiment with our full ingredient library (over 200 ingredients!). The afternoon is dedicated to practise and experimentation with our perfumer on hand during the whole afternoon. You’ll be given an additional three 15ml bottles that you can use over the 3 hours in the afternoon.
