01

The basics: layering

Layering one scent over another is the quickest way to a personal fragrance, and a long tradition in Middle Eastern perfumery. The trick is to keep it simple: very intricate fragrances are hard to layer well, so reach for minimalist scents with short, uncomplicated formulae, or two that share a note. Our favourite approach is to pair opposite ends of the wheel, a bright citrus over a warm wood. Our Essentials are built for exactly this: combine one from the fresh top end with one from the deep base end. More in how to blend a fragrance.

02

For ingredient lovers: amp your own scent

Take a fragrance you already love and push a note you adore. If rose is your thing, add a little rose oil from an Ingredient Box Set to bolster it, layered on the skin or mixed in an atomiser. A small, precise way to make a scent distinctly yours.

The trick is to keep it simple.

03

The bespoke experience: find your signature blend

Our fragrances are designed to blend together. The Creation Set Olfactory Library is built for this, with Essentials to combine, a pipette, an empty blending bottle and a formula book to guide you to a blend that works. Prefer company? Come in for a Blending Discovery Session at our London boutique and blend alongside our team.

Made to measure: from scratch

For a fully bespoke result, work with raw materials and dab into real formulation. Start with an Ingredient Box Set and the perfumer’s handbook to learn the palette, then build your own combinations. To go properly deep, our Fundamentals of Perfume Creation programme teaches the craft step by step. See where it can lead in Scent School.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about making a bespoke perfume

Can I really make my own perfume?+

Yes. You can layer two finished scents, amp a fragrance with a single ingredient oil, blend with a Creation Set, or build from raw materials. Each route suits a different level of involvement.

What is fragrance layering?+

Wearing two complementary scents together to create a personal combination. Minimalist fragrances layer best, especially a fresh top paired with a deep, woody base.

How does an EPC Creation Set work?+

It gives you Essentials designed to blend, a pipette, an empty bottle and a formula book, so you can mix a scent that works and is unique to you.

Do I need training to blend my own scent?+

No. Our Creation Sets and in-boutique sessions are made for beginners. If you want to go further, the Fundamentals programme teaches real technique.

How do I make a fully bespoke scent from scratch?+

Work with raw materials from an Ingredient Box Set and a perfumer’s handbook, then formulate your own blends. The Fundamentals programme guides the process.

Can I blend a scent with help in person?+

Yes. Book a Blending Discovery Session at our London boutique to create alongside our team.
